Poll: Majority of Americans oppose Trump's military action in Iran
WASHINGTON – A PBS News/NPR/Marist poll released Friday showed that a majority of Americans disapprove of how US President Donald Trump is managing the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and oppose the military action.
As the military operation on Iran nears the end of its first week, the survey found 56 percent of Americans oppose US military action in Iran, while 44 percent support it.
Strong majorities of Republicans back both the president's approach and the military strikes, 79 percent and 84 percent, respectively, while 86 percent of Democrats are opposed to both, the poll showed.
Among independents, roughly six in 10 disapprove of Trump's handling of the situation and oppose military action, it added.
The poll was released as Democratic and Republican lawmakers are deeply divided over the attack on Iran. Democrats have lashed out at the action, arguing that there was no imminent threat from Iran and that the attack was not authorized by Congress.
